Pros

Decent benefits, although the free medical carries high deductibles and the 401(k) match does not vest for years. A job for life, if you can tolerate the cons.

Cons

The Peter principle is in full effect when it comes to management. A dispiriting, demoralizing environment, where low morale is widespread, as demonstrated by the many bad reviews on this site. I wish I had heeded them. Because incompetence goes unpunished, incompetents abound. Lower-than-average pay and vacation time. Negotiate before signing anything. Some colleagues are refreshingly diligent and professional, while others distinguish themselves by spending hours (no exaggeration) chatting about matters other than work and disappearing for two hours daily. A "strict" "policy" forbidding working from home means that, depending on your department and manager, you can either work from home regularly or never work from home. Combine that with being paid by the hour, and the result is colleagues spending hours chatting about matters other than work and taking multi-hour breaks. This technology company uses two timekeeping systems that do not communicate with each other. You enter your hours in both, and managers spend their time reconciling the two.

Pros

* Astonishing benefits package, including generous medical, dental, and vision, and a profit sharing boost to your 401k. * A CEO that genuinely seems to care about his employees being successful, and realizes that employee success is directly tied to his company's success * Progressive attitudes towards changes in the company which result in better results for everybody. * Innovative leadership. * Direct recognition of progress tied to your compensation, including raises through tough global economic times. * Many employees get closed offices, even those not in management. * Despite being a mid-sized company, it feels like we have a huge impact on the world and do real good.

Cons

* It can be challenging to have career mobility depending on the department that you start in. * As a result of management siloing internally, experiences can vary wildly depending on which team you end up in, even within the same departments. * Despite being a mid-sized company, it can feel huge and it's easy to get lost in the shuffle. * Advancement can require you to be a strong advocate for yourself since products are prioritized heavily. * Software development can be a stressful job (anywhere).

Pros

Work Life Balance is phenomenal. Medical Benefits, Dental Benefits, Vision Benefits, and 401K plan are top notch. It's a very stable job.

Cons

Pay is way below national standards; for a billion dollar company, you'd think they would pay their employees more. Management is horrid.
