Pros

Esri has a lot of smart, talented staff in development and engineering that put in massive effort to get products ready for customers. The brand is well-known and respected by its customers, who are delightful to work with. Events such as the Developer Summit in Palm Springs are highly motivational.

Cons

There is limited will and capability to quickly develop new products - it's usually a single person initiative that might be taken up after a few years. Esri tends to be quite chaotic, with deadlines continually moving, with constant scope creep and generally inefficient coordination across teams. This has improved in the past two years, as processes and tools such as GitHub enterprise have been put in place.

Great Purpose, Poor Execution

Pros

Some amazing people that are there for a purpose. Decent pay & benefits.

Cons

Slow to adopt well known upcoming industry tools and processes(particularly the department I'm involved with.) Poor attention to developing internal feedback mechanisms and propelling culture beyond an old-school ego-driven mentality that governs management. Some hold their position based on time with the company, which does not necessarily equate to effectiveness in said position.
