This "company" manufactures and installs ice rinks around the US. The good is your coworkers. For the most part, they are good people, stuck in a horrible work environment and just trying to survive. The bad and ugly unfortunately surpass any good or the meager underpaid earnings you are given each payday. Please keep in mind, the environment you work in applies to professional individuals, as well as production and warehouse employees. The environment that you work in is a shed. It is a converted old large concrete block shed, which lacks both central heat and air. Your heat is provided by two wood stoves, neither of which are efficient. So bring a space heater. With no air conditioning, you might want to also bring a fan during summer months, as you will work in an enclosed open room, with zero windows. There is a second facility that is supposed to be in progress, but after two years of zero progress, it doesn't appear that the work conditions will improve physically. FYI, the second facility is very old, very outdated, with zero modern updates made to it. Despite the assurances that the second facility is coming along, there hasn't been any realistic gains or noticeable improvements. So until the company makes real investments from the profits they brag about each year, your workplace will be uncomfortable at best. The work is chaotic, stressful and cut throat. Promises and discounts to the customers are made by top level management and are not noted, so later anyone can be blamed for why the job didn't go smoothly, and the lower level management is just as likely to be fired without warning, so therefore, everyone scrambles to stay off the chopping block. The offices are loud and hectic, as upper management are strong believers in yelling. Profanity and loud belittling are daily, no matter the audience. The management of this company not only will belittle you in front of your coworkers, they will also do this in front of customers. Be prepared to be the sacrificial lamb for anything and everything that goes wrong. The work hours are 24/7, as the company belief is that you should be available via email, phone and text around the clock. And the later in the day, the more likely you are to receive verbally abusive messages from upper management. Communication to you will include verbal abuse and belittlement, while copying everyone in and outside your department. Women are scorned openly in this company by upper management, as they are seen as lesser. Everyone is underpaid, there are zero benefits, such as 401k, healthcare, and not even a real HR dept to escalate your many questions and complaints. If you are required to travel, you do so on your own dime, and hope for reimbursement in the same quarter of the year. The turnover is staggering for such a small company. The culture of the workplace is to hire, use them up quick and then fire, before they qualify for unemployment. The hardest part of the job is to learn how; to keep your head down, plus add value and assist your coworkers, while dodging the verbal bullets from upper management and not get caught up in the drama and tirades that take place daily. less
