Pros

Travel market is a very fast paced and exciting place where technology provides infinite opportunities for innovation in customer facing features. Expedia is a key player in this market and its original successes were determined by innovations in both business and technology aspects of the domain space.

Cons

Over the years after it was sold by Microsoft Expedia lost the passion for technology that made it successful. Its culture and core values deteriorated to a point where the main thing that remained important was office politics. Expedia lost most of its strong technologists and decisions about organizational and technological directions appeared to be quite random.

Pros

Excellent benefits Lots of good, smart people in the lower ranks

Cons

Increasingly bureaucratic Nearly impossible to move from one department to another Success is punished by team dissolution Increasingly political - hall-walkers are valued more than competent workers
