Pros

You can learn a lot about the HR world

Cons

System is ancient. Franchise owners have full discretion in how they run their business and if you are coming from a big company it will be run the exact opposite of how you’re used to working.

Pros

Good benefits and generous policies with the caveat that this department won't allow you to use them without fear of retaliation or complete career sabotage.

Cons

You will be watched and micromanaged to an exhausting level. There will be no grace given for extenuating circumstances such as family, illness, etc. They do not grow their people and despite the generousity of the company itself, this department keeps their salaries as low as possible because if they come in under budget at the end of the year, they get bonused - not the staff.

Pros

I can't think of one pro.

Cons

Working at Express Employment Professionals was one of the worst professional experiences of my career. The pay is extremely low, there are no health benefits, and you’re only offered one week of vacation per year. Each office is independently owned and operated, which means there is no centralized HR department to escalate issues to—even serious ones. Expectations and priorities changed on a weekly basis, often without notice. Many franchise owners had no background in staffing, sales, or leadership, which created a chaotic and toxic work environment. I was paid late on five separate occasions, and three times I was issued a paper check without any pay stub. Even after multiple requests, I was never given access to proper pay documentation. Worse, I experienced multiple instances of sexual harassment—from my boss, coworkers, and even temporary associates. There was no safe or confidential way to report these incidents. I was frequently denied lunch breaks and left alone to run the office for hours at a time without support. This company does not value its internal employees. It exploits them, neglects basic workplace protections, and fails to provide even the most minimal structure or respect. I would strongly discourage anyone from working here.
