Old fashioned company experience

Pros

Extron seems to pay at or above the market for salaries in key positions (ie engineering). The company seems to be very stable and profitable but the owner and management never give details on the state of the company. You can assume since they are hiring, it is doing well. Some positions in the company can be rewarding and challenging and others are just a grind, especially with all the rules and regulations handed down by HR.

Cons

Many of the negative reviews on this site have truth to them. This can be a difficult place to work due to the old fashioned company culture. There were no incentive based rewards (no profit sharing, bonuses greater than $150/year) when I was there; you can only expect to collect a salary. Management seems to be restricted in all aspects due to the central control of HR.

Extremely Poor Working Environment

Pros

If you keep your head down, work lots of free overtime, and are satisfied working without bonuses, raises, or other perks, you might keep your job.

Cons

Everyone punches a time clock and is treated like an hourly employee, except that salary people are expected to work 45 to 50 hours per work. Employees are watched very closely and will be called out if they are perceived to be taking too many breaks, talking too much, or making personal phone calls. There have been several layoffs since I joined the company. They are usually used to just get rid of people and hire replacements. People have been fired because they had medical issues, family members with medical issues, or because the company found someone willing to work for less money.
