Pros

Extron puts a heavy focus on new hire training; they have a dedicated internal training program for all new hires. It allows the employee to learn about the hundreds of products Extron sells and how those products are used by its customers. Work-life balance is pretty good. Depending on your position, you have a desktop computer and no company cell phone. When you clock out, you're done. Extron will let you do as much as you can take on especially if you have the initiative. If you're successful at it, you get compensated and promoted for it. As the title of my review states, the company is strong and competitive. There's no lack of work.

Cons

Sometimes it is hard to steer the ship in a different direction. It may take a long of chain of management needs to sign off. Time off is pretty standard: nothing impressive/nothing unfair.

Pros

It is a growing company which continue to invest in employee and equipments. I work with some of the most humble engineers who have been with the company from few hundred employee to now few thousands. The entire engineering community is very resourceful backed by strong on-site manufacturing and EME experts. Compared with my previous company, the way Extron structure truly enable engineers to stay focus on new development. As company culture, it is a hybrid version of my previous three employments with 100K+ employees with more than 500 people on-site. In a strange way, I enjoy been monitored closely with these time cards while the personal/sick hours are not as intimidating as the company trying to emphasize. There are on-site people who may be paid hourly, it is fair everyone clock in/out and minimize the weird feeling of walking around with company hierarchy in mind. There are family gathering opportunity in summer, and mandatory x'mas party at year end. It's one of the thing it's a perk if you enjoy, or just something to whine about if you dislike gathering.

Cons

As my own example, it was difficult to gain visibility and was assigned to numerous low priority projects. The definition of priority seem too arbitrary and need to be better defined and explained to help employee set goals and perhaps opportunity for promotion and raises. Since this is a cross-matrix organization, the product managers and project managers should be liable for getting engineers recognized.

Pros

Stable company. Even salaried employees clock in and clock out. It is a double edged sword. Yes you have to be punctual, but put in your required 40 hours and you're fine. I've worked at startups putting in 60+ hours per week, so I'm happy to hold up my end of the bargain by promising 40 hours and no more. If you find you have a family or after work life, want to go home on time, this is a decent place to punch in, put your head down, get work done, and go home.

Cons

Very conservative company. Think of IBM in the 80s. This may be a "con" to some people, but is fine by me. HR has gotten nicer over the past few years. There is not much socializing going on at work, I guess it's the company culture. The break rooms have no windows.
