Pros

Strong technical, self motivated people. Hires the best and retains for life World class pay, 401K, health benefits, and even has pension plan Ability to work across various business sectors Plenty of training opportunities Even in the recent O&G downturn, jobs were relatively secure

Cons

Arcane ranking system, demotivates a lot of people. Even managers say they don't like it, why not change it. Very conservative. Many ideas, projects get killed at an early stage. Flat structure. Growth can be slow. Poor paternity policies.

Pros

—Very good compensation —change job roles every 2-3 years to get broad range of experience —strong match on 401k in addition to a free pension —good job security

Cons

—very conservative company culture —not very LGBTQ friendly company culture —very limited work locations in US (Houston-TX, Beaumont-TX, Baton Rouge-LA, Joliet-IL) and not very desirable cities to live in —rating/ranking system is not transparent at all —business decisions take a long time as there are many levels of approvals needed to do anything

Pros

Great place to start career, rotate positions on average every 2 years and learn a lot

Cons

big company, lots of people, very bureaucratic, difficult to control your own career unless you think about things 5 years in advance - which is how the company operates. They plan for long term stability and predictability. This is a pro but not the best for the younger generation of folks who move faster and are more nimble.
