Pros

Quite a stable job in an international environment. If you speak a foreign language and actually utilize it, there are plenty of opportunities here. There are various training opportunities (all online) that are somewhat useful. Workload is pretty good, as you don’t have to burn yourself out. This is a good place to gather some market experience to springboard into a better company/new position with greater prospects.

Cons

As a young person, I’d say the Budapest operations are no good for those staring out in their careers. If you have just a small amount of ambition and drive, this will quickly diminish given the limitation of the positions in Budapest (mainly transactional, ‘do the boring stuff’ kind of tasks) that are handed down from the value-added postions in Western Europe and the US. The workforce quality has also drastically reduced in a small timeframe, as the company are evidently cutting costs by hiring from outside of Europe, and of course packaging this as ‘diversity’, as opposed to hiring higher skilled, local Hungarian employees. From what I have heard, Exxon Budapest GBC is great for people with families, or those who value a stable job. However, if you want to push yourself, develop functionally and professionally, grow in your career and apply your knowledge, this is not the place. An additional aspect is the lack of a hybrid work arrangement; absolutely no aspect of most positions here require presence in the office given that tasks are 99% online. This highlights the big-brother attitude of the company, and it’s inclusion of office presence in KPIs - something which many multinational have moved of from post covid. Pay is below market average, and significantly lower than that of other exxon affiliates (even if sometimes you do the same amount of work).
