Working at ExxonMobil Review

Pros

The pay and benefits are pretty good. There's a lot of experienced engineers, although more and more are retiring, and good mentorship if you seek it out. There is a lot of structure and many, many procedures for just about everything. Which in my opinion is good. Safety is taken very seriously.

Cons

Experienced hires will never move up the corporate ladder as quickly or as far as someone who is hired in right out of college. In this regard, there is a bit of a prejudice against those who hire in as experienced hires. The culture is very serious, stiff, mechanistic, systematic, etc. This might not be a con if you like consistency and a serious culture. However, if you're looking for a company like Google, then this is not your company or industry.

Pros

Excellent salary & benefits; good safety culture; excellent work/life balance and work from home options.

Cons

Red tape might be annoying to some folks who prefer a less 'by the book' company.
