Pros

Great pay and work with a lot of very talented engineers but doing not very innovative work; all about that best practice that is not the best, follow design practice that is OUTDATED

Cons

Safety: A company that abuses a process safety management system “LPS”. You will be spend tons of time doing stupid tasks like LPSA LPO, basically you had to explain to your manager or other people what could be the worse thing could happen and what you gonna go for EVERYTHING! Or observe someone doing work and being nit picky about something they did wrong. Work Culture: every little thing you try to improve in the plant you need layers of approvals. A lot of pushback and ask you what if this happened and that. And the chance of incidents they brought up was like 1% chance and nothing to do with safety. Exxon always think they doing thing the best way, in reality, it is not true. And sooner or later they going out of business stuck in their own way. If you make a mistake, they will blow up the proportion and write you up. How do you become the best if you never make a mistake. Go figure. Company Culture: they have this thing call growing with purpose, that whole thing is a joke. Then they changed to we are ExxonMobil. It just sounds stupid. It’s all about changing the culture in the company. But it’s just a slogan. Few years later they gonna come up with something different slogan but mean the same thing. Lay-off: I know tons of people that were let go but good employees, the company told them they have poor performance so they put them on PIP (personal improvement plan). That is completely unethical and dishonest. A company who has no ball to admit their business not doing well then told employees something they made up to let them go. It’s just ridiculous. Just say it’s a lay-off, ADMIT YOUR MISTAKE.

Pros

The company has good benefits for training and networking (but only in a good cost environment)

Cons

Every person is on their own. People are all ranked against one another but also get to provide comments on your performance which leads them to not always being honest. There is no real plan for development unless you are a chosen one by your boss. All internal promotion is under the control of the supervisors. There are no internal job postings. The company would also rather lay someone off to bring in their new college graduates then continue to employ their current employees who are working hard.
