Pros

Salary was great! It was the highest offer I got. Training was top notch. I was groomed to be a senior technical in a refining technology. The brand is respected on a resume. Also, you work with some of the sharpest people in the game. Very structured training, practices and procedures.

Cons

If you’re a contact your will work long hours and be stressed. Cold and impersonal environment. The ranking system still exists but it is called assessment groups or something now, same forces ranking. You will be ranked amongst your peers so the environment is sort of a pressure cooker at all times. You do not control your career. You go where you are needed. When things are bad, the bottom 10% gets laid off. Anyone can be in the bottom 10% regardless of your performance, it is a combination of luck, experience, who likes you, your group, what good project falls on your lap, etc. if you are less than 5 years, and you’re in the bottom 20%, then you’re out.

Pros

The work is very interesting (bread and butter chemical engineering) in a fast-paced environment. Employees who are willing to put in long hours and stay loyal to the company will be rewarded with long-term advancement, and being that it is a very large company, there are many different career paths one can take. Pay and benefits are pretty good.

Cons

Work life balance can be difficult working at the site level. Engineers are on-call 24/7 and many times must schedule to have a backfill on the weekends whenever they travel within a larger radius than 2 hours from the plant. Morale post-COVID has been pretty bad with very high attrition, but it has seemed to improve with increasing company profitability in 2022.
