Pros

The training is highly-standard, taught by really good trainers, in where you learn a huge range of skills related to the IT world (SQL, Excel, UNIX, WebApp...) While the time you attend in the Academy (training), you can ask for the reimbursement of the travel expenses, which helps a lot. If you are not placed just when you finish your training and you have to wait some weeks, in the meantime, they offer you different ways to upskill in your IT area: free unlimited access to Pluralsight, free to join another course in the Academy... You receive a really good training on how to prepare for client interviews, with plenty of tips and mock interviews. The clients who FDM work for are big companies, big names, and usually, are located in main cities of the UK. During your placement, you receive full attention of the Consultant Support team and from your Account Manager.

Cons

The fact of being geographically flexible in the UK could be a problem sometimes, depending on which is your situation. The salary is not quite a lot, but most of the employees are recent graduates, so we can not expect too much. If you break the contract before 2 years, you have to pay to FDM the training fees, which are £20.000 Despite the fact the training was really good, I think that's too much for just some weeks. I would say that's the only important con of FDM.

Good and bad at the same time

Pros

Brilliant training and experience. Clients are usually well known companies and most will hire you on once your initial contract is over. The training provided is very beneficial, especially if you've never worked in that field before.

Cons

Starting salary is below average for a graduate job, Plus, once out working with the clients you feel very out of the loop of what is going on. If you are unfortunate enough to not get placed quickly, but your training is finished, there isn't anything helpful that you can do and you just end up being bored waiting for a placement. When one does come, a lot of the time it will be in an area that you're not interested or wouldn't be well suited for.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. It’s good to hear that you found the training beneficial. We welcome all feedback and are always looking for ways to improve. In between placements or before a placement, we encourage consultants to take advantage of the further training and coaching that is available – including classroom based training and Pluralsight. If you are willing to meet with me to discuss your ideas and advice further, I would welcome the opportunity. Please email me at jonathan.young@fdmgroup.com Jonathan Young - CIO

Pros

FDM's Ex-Forces programme is a fantastic way for veterans to forge a new career within the IT industry. They give you training to get you started in your new career and also find you placements with their clients in which you can earn a good wage and hone your new skills. I am now a fully fledged Scrum Master, which is something I would never have dreamed off before I started with FDM.

Cons

You must be geographically flexible as many of their clients you could be placed with, are likely to be located away from your home. But this can be positive as it gives you opportunities to re-locate to London or even internationally. I have been lucky as I live very close to the capital and both of my placements have been within commutable distance.
