Pros

- free coffe - exposure to blue chip companies - fairly good trainig - really easy to get accepted - Central location and nice office

Cons

It's all a scam at the end. The sales team try to sell you out as they wish, there is no respect for your individual thoughts and preferences. The chance of getting placed in a nice company are fairly poor. You could move to london just for FDM and then get placed as a developer or BA at a meteo office in the middle of nowwhere!

I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy your journey with FDM. Even though we do consider preferences for placement, we make it clear before candidates join that the placement locations are dictated by our client opportunities and therefore could be anywhere in the UK. Those that are flexible progress to have extremely lucrative careers as all our clients are reputable companies. However, we appreciate that this does not suit everyone, which is why we are so transparent up front. Pros

If you are lucky (like me), you can end up with the job you want, in the location you want. The training provided is good, but nowhere near worth £20k.

Cons

Limited bursary during training limits people to either eating through their savings, or having to rely on parents help. Communication between trainees and account managers is almost non-existent. If rejected, they rarely tell you, instead you have to approach them to ask if you got the placement or not. Even when accepted there is a complete lack of information in the lead up to your placement. I got an email at 9pm one evening telling me to be on standby the next day to start. The next I heard from the account manager was a week later. Since being on placement, it takes about 2 weeks to get a reply to emails sent. We are told about relocation support early on in training, but again they wait for you to go to them for it. For the duration of the 2 year placement, sick pay is unpaid. This is just so wrong, and I bet they still charge the clients for the days work. Again, 20 days holiday is less than average.

I’m pleased to hear that you achieved the placement you wanted in your preferred location. The lack of communication you mention between account managers and trainees concerns me and I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this further with you. Please come by my office or email me at andy.brown@fdmgroup.com so that we can discuss this further. Our employees are important to us and we are always looking for ways to improve, so all feedback is welcome. Andy Brown – Group Commercial Director

Pros

- Excellent training - One of the only ways to get into junior dev roles and establish yourself without 2+ years of proffesional dev experience

Cons

- Hawkish, incompetent account managers - Unhelpful HR department - Guaranteed placements aren't guaranteed. I have been accepted to two placements, only for them to fall through mysteriously. No one cares that I haven't been paid for months while waiting for FDM to get their act together.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. I’m glad to hear that you rate the training highly and recognise the value of the FDM Careers Programme. Unfortunately, some client placements do get pushed back or fall through on occasion for reasons out of our control (i.e. budget cuts on the client side). When this happens, the team tries their best to find other suitable placements. However, it sounds like this could be communicated better and we certainly don’t want you to feel ignored. As you are still an employee, please come to see me directly or email jonathan.young@fdmgroup.com so that we can talk about it. Your feedback is important to us. Jonathan Young - CIO
