Pros

Low bar to acceptance Central Location A qualification at the end of 'training' Possibility that temporary placement could lead to a permanent position

Cons

Far from certain to get a placement - despite initial promises when you first contact them/they contact you No guarantee - if you do get a placement - of the quality of the job Pay very poor - You sign away at least 2 and a half years sometimes 3 for total pay of less than 45k over your stay. You have to relocate ( sometimes more than once ) and try to live on this At the end of your 2 years work with FDM - you cannot approach any of their 'clients' looking to get a job ( unless you want to pay FDM a hefty fee ) Ultimately the whole scheme is set up to take and exploit as much as possible from people

Disappointed.

Pros

The company gives the idea that one will get the best platform for starting out as a new graduate, and although they do have access to a large amount of companies as clients, this ideology that is sold is far-fetched. However, their trainers are excellent and I enjoyed every step of the learning process.

Cons

A lot of people were forced to take additional courses while they awaited interviews to be set up etc. Quite a lot of people had no work lined up even after the 90 day limit they set out on their contract. Also, quite a few people were let off just before the end of their probationary period for absurd reasons, like, points on drivers' licences, deep accents etc

Pros

FDM gave me my start in the IT Industry back in 1998, when we were still called Mounties and the training centre was St Leonards near Hastings. They took me on, gave me their course in VB5, Oracle, Office 97, and SQL Server 6.5, then sent me out to Luxembourg with 5 other mounties to work for State Street Bank. This led to me being bought out of my contract by State Street in Dec 1999, and having a good 9 years working for them until 2008. I am grateful for the opportunities and the doors that they opened up for me. Now I am working at a retail bank in London...

Cons

low starting salary, tough time waiting for a contract. The only genuine gripes I had at the time were the quality of the training, but the training the give now is vastly superior and more organized, and should really bring valuable opportunities to new graduates.
