Pros

I have worked at the Bank for almost 12 years and I love where we are going. We have made great strides the past few years to become more visible with our diverse culture that we have here at the bank. We have an amazing new building that clearly was built with employees in mind. I love being a part of all the wonderful things that we are doing and very proud to work here.

Cons

I do not have one at this time

We couldn't agree more! And, the newly renovated Headquarters is a fantastic place to call home - we work, we collaborate, we have fun and we learn - all to the benefit of our employees, members and communities. Cheers to many more years of helping to make it a great place to do great work!

Company Values are Important

Pros

Enjoyed working with most employees, benefits are good but not competitive with current times. Pay is good. Great training for new employees.

Cons

Leaders of the company do not demonstrate the values. Yell at people in front of others, don't hold all accountable for bad behavior or not doing their jobs. Almost more contractors than employees so hard to know who you are working with. Company culture and values are hard to determine as there are contractors who are making decisions, acting like they run the place, and are not made to uphold the stated company values. Ex. there are two in communications that are very rude, hard to work with, its their way or no way, and do not demonstrate the values of the organization and don't have to as they have been there longer than some employees and appear to be able to do whatever they want.

Thanks for sharing your observations and thoughts. Our core values are our foundation here at the Bank. I’d love to say that every employee and leader gets it right 100% of the time, but that would be untrue. We realize that people make mistakes. Our approach is to discuss those issues, provide leadership and coaching and ultimately live our values well. I would encourage you – wherever you’re working at – to say something if you see situations that aren’t consistent with the company’s values. The Bank has several ways for employees or leaders to say something if they see something. I’d invite you to contact me directly, if you feel comfortable. My open door policy is the same whether you’re employed here or not. While it’s true we use contractors and vendors to support our operations in short and long-term capacities, the number of contractors is far less than our 350 employees. It’s also important to note that contractors are not employees. Legally, that’s an important distinction. But, regardless of the terms of their contracts, we expect all of our contractors to respect and uphold our values. Thanks for sharing your talent with the Bank. I wish you all of the best in your career. Nancy Betz, Chief HR, Administrative and OMWI Officer, FHLB Des Moines

Pros

I recently became an employee of Federal Home Loan Bank and I've enjoyed every moment thus far. From my very first day I was met with smiling faces and introduced to multiple team members who were more than accommodating. The culture here is AMAZING! While other companies treat diversity as a footnote, here at FHLBDM, you truly get the sense that everyone here believes in the value of diversity. The leadership here is incredible, and that comes from the top down. As I was making my rounds getting to know everyone, most of my new team members mentioned our CEO by name, and had great things to say about the vision and values he leads our company with. And finally, our new state of the art building makes our location a dream work space. Our desks are ergonomically friendly, our employee gym is a huge perk, and our community spaces and conference rooms esthetically appealing. As a new employee, I could not have asked for a better reception or a better company. I look forward to furthering my career with Federal Home Loan Bank. I would highly recommend Federal Home Loan Bank to any job seeker who wants to work hard AND make a difference.

Cons

I will admit, as a new employee, I have not encountered any "cons" to report.
