Pros

Interesting and challenging work. Can learn a lot quickly High profile / exposure to c-level executives and key decision makers Opportunity to travel (if you want) Casual Fridays

Cons

Sink or swim environment, no formal training Lots of politics inside the organization Internal communication is horrible Constant stress and pressure to be at full capacity and full utilization Tendency to over promise the client, and low ball on budgeting Long hours due to unrealistic deadlines and understaffing Slow promotion track Average pay (received no bonus in second year at firm) Disconnect between upper management and employees Lack of job security Company turnover is high

Pros

- Ability to work on interesting/high profile matters (although this is dwindling compared with past years) - Casual Fridays (varies by office) - Free snacks/food/drinks - Good social events/happy hours - In general - fun, smart colleagues (particularly at the staff level) - Solid benefits (although the Employee Stock Plan was taken away) - Nice office environment (varies by office)

Cons

- Office culture varies dramatically by location - Pressure to be "utilized" and constantly be "billable" - Work can be monotonous - Rigid Promotion process; e.g. from Consultant to Senior Consultant level the time period in between promotion is 2 years and, in my experience, this is rarely deviated from. - No bonus or incentives for Consultants coming in with a Master's degree - Recently senior management has been in the habit of not managing clients' expectations as far as turnaround time and "low balling" on the budget when bringing in cases just to outbid competitors for work. This results in understaffed, poorly managed projects where staff is resentful they have to work over the weekends/rush through the work when the issue could have easily been avoided with better planning on part of management. - Unsure if work product is truly helping clients (no feedback from clients once a case is over)
