Pros

- Company vehicle (though you pay a monthly fee) - Other adjusters are very nice - Trainer is helpful and approachable - Nice to be out in the field and not a cubicle

Cons

- Within the last 12 months this department went from 14 employees to 7. The adjusters remaining were grossly overworked and burned out - You are only as good as your lowest score. You are rated on several different metrics, but even if you exceed all your goals and miss only one, you are considered "does not meet goals" for the year - One of your goals is inspecting claims within 5 days. The state is grossly understaffed and adjusters can travel up to 3 hours for a claim and claims can be scheduled out several weeks. How is that within the adjuster's control? - Impossible to handle several claims per day while still effectively processing existing claims

Pros

Flexibility in deciding what hours you prefer to work. Opportunities for continuing training and education are offered and encouraged. Easy to bond with colleagues (they're likely being treated as poorly as you are).

Cons

Management is very disconnected from what the job actually entails and does not respect the time or effort put in by employees, many of whom are left no other option but to work after hours and/or weekends just to keep up, without overtime pay. There is little to no transparency between management and employees as to why decisions are made, and although this is slightly improving, management is generally not receptive to feedback. Unless you are one of the chosen few who are held in high regard by your management team, expect constant criticism and little positive feedback. Management holds grudges and will make your life miserable ad infinitum if you ever get on their radar for any reason. You can make all your goals- and yet still be written up, denied bonuses and have your life made so miserable that the ever-present threat of termination doesn't seem so bad after all. Farmers philosophy is that employees are not allowed to make errors, yet they fail to realize that the generally overwhelming caseload makes this impossible. Furthermore, the constant steam of pointless meetings for the sake of having meetings (1 to 2 a week) take chunks out of your day that could be much better spent, you know, actually getting work done.

Pros

Flexible hours are a plus. Ability to take a longer or shorter lunch as needed. Great job for someone who likes to sit all day.

Cons

There are so many cons to this job it would be hard to list them all. You never have a sense of achievement, if you get sick you get ‘points’ for not planning your absence ahead of time and if someone has planned time already then nobody works on your claims while you are gone and you get behind and then you get written up for getting behind because you got sick. You have to sit all day long, If you get up from your desk you get behind because they hire you and tell you that you will only get so many claims a week and then you actually get twice that many sometimes and no overtime to work them, so you get behind and written up some more. RUN.
