      Pros

      Good place to work for less than a year if you really need employment. One store I worked at was great while another was full of unethical managers that like to make their books look good. I would stay away if you have any morals or ethics. The company culture is terrible.

      Cons

      Some managers are great...but most are money hungry and immoral.

      To gain experience coming right out of college

      Cons

      Pay and hours expected to work. Could accomplish just as much or more work in a shorter amount of time but forced to stay during store business hours. Plus, to cut cost Fastenal made us get rid of our water cooler service and we are required to buy our own water, no water fountains available. I know this sounds ridiculous but for the overall year Fastenal is showing growth over 2007 numbers, and for that the reward is denied free access to one of the basic needs of life.

      Dead end job, use to get your career started

      Pros

      Easy way to get your foot in the door with little experience. You typically dont need a degree and they dont really check references. If you have decent sales skills and a good appearance you should be ok. Emphasize your willingness and excitement for outside B2B cold calling.

      Cons

      Little room for advancement, poor pay. The pay is good to start but the market is extremely competitive. If you want to advance the only way is Mgmt. You must be required to relocate where the position is available. Also, if it outside of your district preference will be given to those who work in that district. Make sure your RVP knows you.
