Pros

They have benefits, even though more and more are taken away every year. There are usually openings in the company, but it's because they can't keep enough good people. There are still bonuses, but you have to sell "product of the month," instead of getting a sales based bonus. There are a handful of "GREAT" centers in the country to work for, and probably a few more handfuls of "GOOD" centers as well.

Cons

Print industry paying retail wages: That's right! You will do so much printing, and your store will bring in the majority of their sales through this printing. Because they have "a small retail section" in every store, they get away with paying the whole company retail wages. The printing rates for all of their products are the most in the industry, regardless if you have quick turnaround. They can afford to pay team members more. Training is horrible: This job has so many aspects to learn that it is confusing. The District Managers take up so much time of the Center Manager that they can't even keep up on the skills needed to run their centers if the Lead Consultant is gone. Lead consultants can't train the Center Consultants if the store is very busy and their managers aren't there. Some stores don't even have Assistant Managers to help. DM's and RD's put so much emphasis on payroll that training suffers, and so does daily work. The HR Department only encourages managers to write employees up if mistakes occur. Corporate penalizes employees for leadership failures: The climate surveys are the same ones that if a customer gives a 9/10, it is considered failing by the company. Not only do they not take into account that their customers might have varying value systems that prevent them from voting 10/10, they punish the employees of the center. Punishment instead of training is a gross failure on upper management and leadership. These surveys are basically manipulations so the company can advertise an inflated sense of customer service to their potential customers and potential stock holders. DM's don't fill employee vacancy quick enough: Some centers will be short up to 2 employees for months at a time, and the other employees won't be able to do the work in any more hours than normal. All of the work will have to be done in the same amount of time by fewer people. If a center is already busy, they rarely get the help they need, when they need it. The employment process of this company takes a long time for some reason. When the DM's are in the store, it is nothing but a dog and pony show. Everyone is all smiles and can't talk about any actual problems with the stores, simply because the DM's don't want to hear that when they come in. There is a complete lack of leadership in upper management.

Pros

You learn how to deal with different personality types/ management styles. There's a lot of camaraderie to be built between employees across locations. If you come in the door with creative problem solving and technical skills, it can be super easy and repetitive in that aspect. However, you might get bored and not like people and spreadsheets enough to even want to move up to management.

Cons

The workload and dealing with customer's can get overwhelming, and there's usually a lot of pressure to have everything perfect and finished before the store closes. You have to arbitrarily watch numbers. It feels like you're being underpaid for attempting do all the extra stuff corporate thinks* you should be doing to improve business.
