Pros

Good benefits, salary is OK. Work schedule was ok, but now expecting nights and weekends. Challenging environment and excellent career advancement.

Cons

No empowerment or decision making for managers. Excessive numbers and task oriented accountability. Numerous corporate delays and mistakes, yet the field is held highly accountable. Massive turnover over past 3 years, always a lot of movement and instability.

Passive Aggressive Leadership

Pros

In the beginning, very people focused where all could share and communicate openly. That changed.

Cons

The CEO is great and seems very open and caring. The VP and Directors are not. If you want to keep you job, never question them, the processes, the expectations. No matter the circumstances or concerns, they will only view communication as a challenge to them and a lack of alignment with the company. They will also never be honest about their thoughts about you directly. They will be passive aggressive and dance around, then taking you down other ways. Very subversive and cowardly. This shows a complete lack of honesty, integrity and true leadership. As long as they protect their jobs, nothing else matters. HR is also bullied and misled to support them despite clear evidence they are no leaders. Their failure to listen and truly care about people is the direct cause of the failure and decline of FedEx Office. Look at the five year trend and it’s plain to see. Those results lie solely at the feet of the directors and VP’s.

Overall pretty good

Pros

It offers great benefits and pretty great starting pay for a retail job. If you like printing and production-related stuff and making things, then the work can be fun at times. I stayed as long as I have because the pay is good and they do yearly raises which are performance-dependent, but fair. I also really enjoy printing and running production so I take pride in the jobs that I produce and that side of the job is pretty fun.

Cons

You have to deal with a lot of corporate nonsense and the higher ups usually have no sense of what it is actually like to work in center. There’s lots of pointless metrics and they’re trying to make it more sales based even though we’re a print shop. Also having to deal with peoples’ package issues can be pretty annoying. We’re just a retail center and have no control over deliveries or drivers, but we end up being the point of contact for customers experiencing issues so we often have to mitigate those problems. It also really depends on who you’re store manager is. I’ve had really awesome managers and also really awful ones and that will really change the working environment. When coming in new, this job requires patience and commitment because it is A LOT to learn. Most new hires don’t realize how long it can take to learn all the printing stuff, which can be frustrating. I tell people it usually takes a good year until you’re comfortable with doing most things , and even then it usually takes longer to really feel like you know what you’re doing with confidence.
