Pros

Great training for sales and you will need it because you will be 20% to 40% high all of the time. If you can sell this product then you can sell anything.

Cons

Marketing makes all of the money for the company but underwriting runs the place. The underwriters for the most part have never stepped foot out of Owatonna, MN but they control everything. Lots of tension and divide between the underwriting and marketing department when they should be on the same team. I think that Federated wants it that way. Very political company. No matter how much success you have you better be liked by your peers and bosses or they will push you down. This stems from insecurities. If they view you as a threat to take their job then they push you down.

Pros

You get to sell the best insurance product available for petro marketers, equipment dealers, auto dealers, contractors, machine shops, and print shops. The company provides excellent training, and pays very well.

Cons

This job requires a ton of work. In the marketing role you act as a consultant more than a salesperson. Federated requires that you see each client 4 times per year to discuss succession planning and risk management--- some really enjoy this aspect of the job, others would prefer to free to sell and cultivate new accounts.
