Pros

-Kind staff. -Meaningful, challenging work. -Great benefits (particularly vacation and retirement). -Cool scenery on campus. -Good opportunities for outreach. -Little micromanaging (at least for my role and team).

Cons

-Process inertia: the lab is large and beuracratic, with many process slowdowns as a result. Par for the course for this type of institution, but sometimes waiting for things to get done can be a problem. -Lab is old and it's starting to show. Equipment, while usable, is sometimes obsolete and acquiring new tools can be a hurdle if they're expensive (i.e., network analyzers).
