Pros

The benefits and compensation at Fidelity are outstanding. The competency of the work force stacks up well against other organizations.

Cons

In recent years Fidelity has become stagnant. There seems to be no direction. Much of this has to do with the fact that it is now a large corporation with all that entails. Also, as the work force matures, opportunities for growth become more limited. Senior management is also often clueless as they are trying to save their own jobs.

Pros

The money, especially bonuses in my experience exceed the market. The base salaries are about on par. There are a lot of good benefits beyond 401k and health care. There is supposed to be a work / life balance at Fidelity, but like so many other things, it is very inconsistent from manager to manager and business unit to business unit.

Cons

The company has institutionalized the acceptance of failure at worst and mediocrity at best when it comes to IT Projects. As a software professional, it becomes frustrating to work furiously at solving every type of issue besides the technical. Front line managers are ill equipped to manager software professionals, they are either bad developers promoted to the point of incompetence, or just do nothing know nothing MS Project jockeys.

Pros

The people are good. I really enjoy the overall culture of the corporation. I have also found that some internal departments go out of there way to support their employees. Though this tends to be ‘department’ specific, I love the fact that Fidelity allows this. Overall Fidelity is a great place to work!

Cons

Pay is sometimes on the lower side. Also since things are departmentalized so much, sometimes you don’t feel as connected to the overall picture. Sometimes you get locked in your own world and it’s hard to see how you relate to everything else or to other companies within Fidelity Investments.
