Pros

Very good in terms of flexible work hours, ability to work remotely and geographic diversity. A big plus is the international exchange program where employees from Ireland or India come over to the U.S and vice versa. Of course, this is usually only available to senior positions, but a great bonus none-the-less. They also offer free financial courses; even for those of us who are not finance majors. They make great emphasis on retirement savings and their profit sharing plan puts funds directly into your 401k, tax free! This alone help me reach my retirement goals in a very short span of time.

Cons

The red tape is a killer! Unless you have been in the organization for a while (4 years at least), it is extremely hard to get things accomplished without running around all over the place, being bumped from person to person. Certain "standards" in place also merely serve to place a checkbox on a form rather than serve a real and vital purpose. Again, this adds to the red tape without necessarily improving quality or process. Career growth is strictly by time worked rather than skill. There is no "fast-track" for star employees. Even for those that consistently outperform, they still get the same promotion time line as the not-so-stellar employees.

Pros

Reputable firm. Leader in the MF industry. Very conservative business platform and compliance/HR department that constantly modifies policies and procedures in order to avoid heavy risks and excessive business expenses. The company has very driven and intelligent individuals that strongly believe in a team oriented work environment. The branch work environment is much different than the phone sites where customer service is provided to branch representatives and clients. Business processes are heavily outsourced by department functions and organized according to a customer service phone tree. Overall, the only improvement to be made is in the compensation area and the technical development available to the representatives working at the branches.

Cons

Business platform is too large and departments are outsourced; created as phone sites versus subject matter support staff to advisors. Financial advisors are too reliant on software and not enough technical (financial) development is promoted by the company in certain areas.

Pros

The benefits and pay are equal and/or above it's competitors. Everyone takes pride in their work and they want to do the right thing. The tenure is high.

Cons

There's very little job stability...layoffs have been happening every year in certain areas. Not sure why, we're swamped with work and the company continues to make a ton of money. That is a good thing, but they need to cut in certain 'other' areas instead of the same area every year. Some of the old leadership must go. The new leadership I believe is strong. Maybe they will help breakdown the walls between the groups so we can get a lot of work accomplished. They also need to get rid of the 'good old boy network'...there's a lot of talent in the organization, but they can't get passed the 'clicks'. This is very unfortunate.
