Pros

- incredible amount of external facing responsibilities as an analyst: every single analyst works closely with their clients’ CEO / CFO, which from what I have seen is unparalleled. Over the course of the deals I’ve been on, I was responsible for a significant amount of client interactions, from daily calls with the CFO to build the model, or leading parts of client meetings. In addition, it is common for a starting analyst to attend management meetings with buyers, lender, and various 3rd party providers. The level of responsibility an analyst gets at FT in this capacity has been positively surprising for me. - get to go above and beyond in developing strong financial and technical skills: every bank will teach an analyst how to build and work with DCFs and LBOs, but FT is unique in how deep the analysis goes. I and the analysts I’ve worked with built bottoms up operating models for every deal ( this is culturally a must, so analysts will get their bread and butter from these experiences). In addition, analysts learn how to perform pipeline, cohort, unit economics, and several other critical forms of analyses investors use frequently, but very few banks go out of their way to teach their analysts these skill sets - the biggest perk of the job for me has been the senior banker exposure, particularly during strategic discussions regarding process structure and most importantly negotiations with buyers!! Can’t stress this enough - I am shocked at what I’ve been able to learn just by watching how the senior bankers negotiate and deal with investors. It’s not really something you can learn from reading a book, you have to watch the best to see how to do it effectively. So this for me was the best part of my analyst experience so far - great culture, great people to work with. It’s easier to come into work when i know I’m working with people I have a good time with

Cons

- Long hours, but this more or less should be expected. It has gotten a bit better recently with more senior banker hires and more analysts in the program but should still expect long hours - expense policy could be a bit less strict

Pros

Given a lot of responsibility (even if a lot of it is menial tasks) Everyone (for the most part) is very friendly / nice on a surface level If you stay for the long haul, you're pretty much guaranteed to keep moving up the hierarchy and earn an above-street salary

Cons

A lot of menial / admin-like tasks that take up a lot of your day You will spend hours / days working on a deck or a project that literally never gets used Senior members have absolutely no regard for anyone's personal lives. Expect to work on holidays, during vacations and trips, on weekends, at 4 am... pretty much be at their beck and call. As mentioned by previous reviews, analysts bond over how much they hate it at the firm, but don't you dare ever say anything close to neutral or negative to HR / senior level management... Cult-ish company culture where difference in personalities and interests isn't appreciated here Can be a very unsupportive and competitive environment of comparing who works harder / who works more, so you are unlikely to receive support if you are feeling stressed as someone else will always have it worse and will make sure you know so

Pros

Little to no pitching and great deal flow Associates are qualified and for the most part are very willing to coach Autonomy to work directly with client CEO's / CFO's if you prove yourself early Generally, as long as you are responsive, get your work done and join calls no one cares if you get in late after a long night or work from home on the weekend Own all aspects of the deal and learn a lot Establishing training programs Above market bonus

Cons

Long hours including weekends, was not unexpected but never really adjust to it Heavy volume of material created for clients (multiple 150+ page decks per deal) created by one, maybe two analysts. Pays off for our clients and the firms reputation but someone has to pull it together High deal flow and poor processes lead to a significant amount of work by the jr team keeping the sr team informed
