Pros

Nice desks, other non supervisory employees are very friendly.

Cons

Awful, you are micromanaged every SECOND of the day by all the supervisors and the hiring process is not fair.It is based on the favories getting hired first no matter what your stats are. No set hiring standards followed by all supervisors.Expect that when you are a contractor(temp worker) that you will be the ones that have to come in and work all holidays because they don't want to to pay the employee rate. Also alot of lazy power station supervisors that woukd rather talk about people ,rather than doing their job and answering questions that they are suppose to answer.

Pros

Working with the same people as I did with my previous company and working with the same standards and practices as my previous company, before the hostile takeover.

Cons

FirstEnergy and their "legacy-Ohio-Edison-is-the-best-thing-since-sliced-bread-so-do-what-we-do-because-we-are-too-simple-to-even-think-about-adopting-others'-standards-and-practices" attitude and approach. Cut safety corners and budgets. Zero flexibility. Pile more work on before hiring more people. Waste government money on rediculous amounts of unnecessary contractors because of family ties with that firm, instead of hiring empoyees. They wait until the last minute to spend all their money. They paid less per position than the company they took over so they were upset they didn't get the same salaries. Did I mention they pay below market rate, when you consider their market extends from west most Ohio, to the east coast of New Jersey, and down to the very south of West Virginia, they pretty much set the market rate.

Pros

Pay is generally very good and bonuses (when the company does well). There are a lot of dedicated employees willing to do what it takes to get work done. There is a strong respect for safety inbedded in the culture. Good human resource support to employees, but they are limited in what they can do to make changes.

Cons

Employees are overworked, stressed out with no light at the end of the tunnel. Benefit offerings have eroded to the point that we are below market. It is hard to attract good talent to fill jobs, because prospects have heard about the lack of work/life balance and unreasonable expectations of their employees. Sr. Management lacks the ability to articulate strategy to the employees and chose to hide instead of actively communicating and soliciting feedback. Ethics and morals are non-existent for some of the most senior leaders and the company lawyers finds creative ways to cover up their indiscretions. The severe lack of accountability for leadership is nauseating and creates engagement issues for all employees. There is way too much lip service paid to employees about how management is going to make things better, get additional resources, help to reduce work & hours, but all talk and no action! Management takes a class called "How to blow smoke up your employee's butts" once they accept their job offer.
