Flexible but frustrating

Pros

Work any time and anywhere in the US.

Cons

Impersonal with no one to contact for help. Endless training and testing. I often wondered if I was part of a complex social experiment to see how much intricate direction one person would take without positive feedback.

Pros

This is an incredible company, and I truly love working here. We are solving problems that matter, and I get to work with the smartest people I know while doing it. Management cares about your needs, and they are dedicated to making sure their employees are happy. The benefits are marvelous, and the work is so rewarding.

Cons

The work is grueling, and excellence is demanded. If you are looking for an easy day job, this isn't it, but this is a place where your voice matters, and your work counts.

Pros

Like many prospective candidates, I was first attracted by Flatiron Health's mission. Now that I have been here for some time, it is reassuring to know that the mission is not just a check box. We all really believe in the work that we do. The passion is infectious and inspiring. I love my contributions and I love the people I get to partner with. I accepted the offer because I wanted to create, innovate and grow in an area I have a ton of expertise in. I wanted to leverage my previous experience and create something new. I have been able to do that quite effortlessly. What surprised me was the level of transparency associated with that. Everything is collaborative and there's a ton of real time feedback thanks to the open Google Drive culture. For me this really brought the values to life. I feel challenged and rewarded for the work I put in. The last thing I'll mention is the office culture itself. It just feels good to be here. I'm not locked to my desk because there are tons of couches and other workspaces around. During daily free lunch I can have meals with people from totally different teams. There are tons of unique things happening from massages to Family Fun Night and our monthly happy hour. None of these things serve as distractions. It's just a nice to have and another reason to come to work.

Cons

Flatiron is growing rapidly so I think we're currently working through the challenges associated with scale. Depending on who you are, this can be riveting or it can be nerve-wrecking. It's a startup though. It was one of the reasons I signed. If you're not prepared to meet new people every other week or learn about a process that was just implemented, you're probably not looking for a startup type of environment. That said I was surprised that there were so many great processes already in place. As we grow, some of these will break but for me that's part of what makes it interesting.
