Pros

Some nice perks like snacks, breakfast + lunch, stocked bar, annual company trip, and game room. If you're working with under the right lead and have decent co-workers you might make valuable contributions and learn something along the way.

Cons

These shiny perks DO NOT make up for the incredibly toxic culture. There are some MASSIVE ego's running the show. Massive structural changes in the past year including the co-CEO, senior MD, and several senior heads resigning resulted in a power grab for those who remain. Changes were seen across the board in nearly all departments and teams, the company is unrecognizable compared to what it was a few years back. There is little direction, it is an absolute 'everyone for themselves' type of culture. Flow Traders suffered from the worst case of 'start-ups growing pains' I've seen or heard of. On top of this, penny-pinching upper management will rarely give out raises or bonuses regardless of how hard you work and how much you contribute. This appears reinforced with nonsensical and unreasonable workload that do not have obvious benefits for the company on those at the bottom of the chain. Completing a job does NOT mean you are compensated (bonus or otherwise)! At the end, management will claim credit and collect their chunk of the pie at the end of the year. Consider this a warning for all those considering joining the firm, there are plenty of competitors that will give you a fair and honest chance with competitive pay. Don't waste your time here.

Becoming Toxic

Pros

Excellent perks and events throughout. Yearly company trips, bar available with free drinks every day and access to gym with trainers. The bar means you can become great friends with a few colleagues as it’s often used as an after work place to unwind, creates a good sense of friendship with your colleagues. You will learn a lot in this environment, both about the financial world and your job.

Cons

Middle management are completely unaware of who is doing what in their teams. Hardly ever have contact with individuals yet it seems that they are the ones you should personally please to get further in the company. Absolutely no type of communication skills or leadership from the people they have picked to be team leaders. No positive feedback or motivation. There’s a definite sense that even though they want to advertise as a tech company, development are definitely second class citizens and expendable. This shows when it comes to the black box of bonus distributions. They want juniors and graduates but they don’t really want juniors and graduates.. Management loves the “idea”, but there’s no commitment to what that means they should do or provide on their end. No transparency whatsoever when it comes to bonus distribution and this is where it becomes clear you should only worry about becoming “bros” with your manager. Lack of diversity! If you’re a loud Dutch male, you’ll probably be just fine.

Pros

weekly massasges and catered lunches

Cons

If you are not brown nosing, you will not get ahead. Employees are hamstrung by conflicts of interest with HR, making expressing any concerns futile. Promotions and applying to internal postings do not follow federal hiring guidelines. There is no formal positing of lead or mgr positions and there is no formal interview process for the roles either. Nepotism prevails here, and there are layers of unqualified person's in multiple roles Hence there is a severe lack of leadership, where there is quite a bit of bark, but no bite. Additionally unqualified and even unsuspecting responsibilities are given to the lead puppets, to insulate senior mgmt from any culpability should things go sour. Even the senior mgrs are more interested being liked rather than getting tasks and projects addressed in a timely fashion. The mass exodus and revolving door of employees should leave room to question their rating as one of the better places to work. Employee turnover is concerning, and imho left a lot of inexperience in a lot of senior/mgt roles. Also no raises are to be expected, if the company does well, just hope you get a piece, if not then good luck. Oh if you are not Dutch then good luck on career advancement unless you pucker up.
