Decent Stable Company / Fixed Thought Process

Pros

In terms of my team culture: The people and team I work with overall are good solid stable people who approach solving problems with a very analytical and sequenced approach. Whenever a new project challenge arises, my particular team goes about solving it in a step-by-step cool calm and collected technical way. This is nice because I have worked in environments in the past where solving problems was more of an erratic overly emotional approach, that was semi chaotic. The environment I work in most of the day is relatively quiet for the most part (with some exceptions), this allows me to stay focused on my work and make high quality products. I have never been a person who works well in environments where being loud just for the sake of being loud is productive for me. So this group is mostly a quieter throughout the day which is good. My job requires a lot of mental energy and concentration, so its nice to have that ability to focus with a reduction in distractions (although they are there).

Cons

But.... along with that stability mentioned above, at both the team and company level has what appears to be a natural resistance and/or misunderstanding to the importance of new ideas and new technologies. Yes there have been discussions of new ideas/technologies, but they usually don't get implemented, and there is usually pushback in subtle ways to those ideas. There exists an implicit feeling of "lets keep going with what we have already been doing... why would we change it?" I would also say that there also appears to be an older school way of looking at business in general. I think the day-to-day way that Flowserve conducts handling it's employees, tends to be a little outdated in many areas.
