Depending on what project you work on, you will get the chance to see very interesting code and learn. You will also have the opportunity to take ownership of projects and easily plan your career course since you could get involved into different parts of the software process based on your desires.

Cons

Hierarchy is not well determined and that causes problems also in annual planning.
