Pros

Close group of people within the departments, supports each other, good benefits, bonus option

Cons

Hard to move anywhere else in the company or be promoted, since acquisition a lot of employees have left and have not yet been replaced.

Pros

Free bagels on Fridays as far as I know but I would fully expect that to be cost cut ASAP. Company is financially sound, pays their bills and makes money day in and day out. Train beer if commuting via Coaster. There are still good people left.

Cons

Key note - Ignore all reviews before June 2013 - the company is completely different after the acquisition by Vista. There aren't enough good people left. The benefits used to be decent but are already on their way to the cheapest business cost, worst they can get away with. None of that money flows down to the employees (what little did ended with the end of the public stock and no compensation to replace it). The SoCal surfer 35 hour work week work ethic, at least in Engineering and Admin...Tech Support and Sales were always worked like slaves. Since the acquisition by Vista Equity Partners it is a race to the bottom. The top 25% of talent that wasn't wed to their vacation hours or San Diego have left. The company (and the other San Diego Websense acquistions) are moving to Texas even though the senior management continues to half-heartedly deny it (they say sources were misquoted without saying they aren't moving). The deal closed in June 2013 and there are still no retention bonuses for anybody but executives - that tells you something. Good initiatives from 2012 and 1H2013 to move the product forward and take the support organization to the next level have been gutted and left to rot on the alter of staffing churn and mismanagement. Some of the few tools that were good and worked are being ripped out and replaced with something from the bottom end of the market. The large enterprise push is dead - makes sense because that is a multi-year road to make happen - and the strategy is all about maximize revenue at the middle third of the ladder where they don't tip over but aren't too expensive so they can flip the company before the technical and people debt manifests. The core of the company is security technology and that will be hard talent to find and scale in mid-America and most of the experienced and industry respected folks are gone from that group already.

Few benefits, no sense of team...

Pros

Great technology that usually works and competes well against the "big boys"

Cons

*Few benefits since going private. *Very little chance for promotion. *Very high chance of being worked 24/7. *Low compensation, especially in light of the reduction in corporate benefits. *Unrealistic/unbalanced quotas which appear to be based on a random number generator. *High turnover - retention is terrible. *Zero leadership, only different levels of managers. *Difficult to obtain necessary resources for day-to-day job accomplishment. *Little (direct supervisor) or no (directors and above) recognition for going above and beyond. *Communication from the top down is non-existent (shut up and drink the kool-aid). Communication from the bottom up is either stifled at middle management or summarily ignored by upper management. *SoCal culture is very prevalent (and 1990's). The company needs to grow up.
