Pros

Overall good company. Fantastic products. Love the vision and mission statement. However I had a very bad experience in a specific practice. Was let go with no formal warning. People are leaving left and right within the client facing growth teams. (1) Very intelligent co workers. (2) Very cool projects, case studies, use cases (3) Great Townhall setting for transparency, communication, direction if company (4) Met some truly wonderful people who I have continued to stay in connect with (5) Fantastic opportunities to train outside of work hours. Certificates, Domain knowledge, etc. As they continue to position themselves in PR, News, gross margins, etc. for IPO, when hiring for client facing roles, ensure the onboarding for your responsibilities, support if any disruption happens, and empathy is there at a practice level. I will still always root for Fractal, but I hope HC or HR fishbones some of the practices and their heads. There needs to be accountability when people are leaving left and right.

Cons

However has similar pitfalls in the industry: (1) Hire for growth, but onboarding process is extremely poor in terms of aligning skillsets with role, understanding clear expectations, and where to grab support particularly for new employees (2) Fraternity like atmosphere. Tenured members will give bandwidth to each other and grab key projects (3) Leadership by practice differs. I had a very bad experience with my Practice head. I need two hands to count # of people who have left underneath the practice in last two years (4) Political, particularly before IPO. What's truly hapdissatisfaction, floor is shielded by so many layers that Executive Leadership do not know underlying reasons for churn, dissastisfaction, which of course spills into work

Pros

Generally smart and helpful colleagues in the area of analytics People friendly policies, founders do care a lot about employees and these policies are instilled in organization culture for the most part. Very transparent decision making process. Feedback is solicited every now and then. Employees are actively encouraged to take ownership.

Cons

Like many other small or large consulting firms, Fractal was lured into asset based consulting. Fast forward few years - this model didn't really meet the expectation for both large and small consulting firms, and it did impact the top and bottom line. For a consulting or even a product firm - very odd sales structure in the US/UK. Never seen a org where pretty much all the sales folks start at leadership position and in the same (or even better) career track as consultants, engineers and data scientists. Apart from building or trying to build relationships with prospects and talking about analytics solutions at a very high level, many of these folks are completely dependent on others, this even includes creating a deck with one slide. Building relationship is an important part but when our clients are sitting on fire with these rapid technology changes, most important thing they are looking for is someone who have the skills and experience to successfully guide them in adapting these changes (trusted advisors). There seems to be an implicit culture in the firm where sales folks think their job is to get the work done by consultants, and consultants think their job is to make engineers and data scientists work and it goes on. In the end you are not left with many people who can do the real work. Partly this can be blamed to confusing operating model as well.
