Great place for engineers - not welcoming foreigners
Pros
Fraunhofer is a good place for entry-level in my opinion. they provide oppurtunities to learn and grow, you can attend to conferences and workshops and obtain certificates.
Cons
At least in our institute, the teams were predominantly male, which affected the balance of the team dynamic. There were also very few international colleagues. This meant that speaking German was necessary—and not just standard German, but the local dialect. Although everyone spoke excellent English, meetings were conducted in German, and when clarification was requested, information was often repeated in German. This led to a loss of important information during meetings and left me feeling excluded, unsupervised, and not fully part of the team. I also experienced instances of discrimination at work related to my race and appearance.
