Smart people, great benefits

Pros

Fraunhofer employs some very smart people. Within a single center people are willing to share ideas and help out on projects besides their own. There is good collaboration on projects and a variety of work. Being a subsidiary of a German parent means the benefits are excellent. Job security has been guaranteed through the recession.

Cons

There is little interaction or collaboration between centers. It feels like they compete against each other at times. Within a center there are very few layers of management so upward movement is virtually nonexistent.

A place to learn, work and have fun

Pros

Since its a Research institute, one can learn a lot in Solar field, from production to installation. Being one of the top Solar research instiute, it has many tie ups with other similar institute.

Cons

During winter, its difficult to work. Also because of constant snow, life becomes difficult for those who travels in trams, buses, and bikes.

Pros

Benefits are fantastic, esp. the retirement package. Some middle managers are really great people. All of the people are extremely intelligent. Decent place to work before recent changes in leadership.

Cons

Low pay by industrial standards. Promotions are rarely given unless you are in the "political crowd" even if you've done outstanding work. Upper management has a few people who know absolutely nothing about the technology platform they are leading. Strict structure of communication which restricts and filters the flow of information.
