Pros

Fred Meyers is constantly hiring and gives opportunities to High School students, which is great in this economy. A lot of the people who work grocery (Restocking) Electronics and Apparel are generally positive. Decent breaks, 30 minute break if you work 5+ hours, 1 hour break if you work 8+ hours. HR department (A single person lol) is always happy. Fred Meyers in itself is a great place to be employed.

Cons

Your constantly expected to achieve the impossible. You manually push carts. There's no machine or anything of that nature. You get a rope with a hook attached so you can keep up to 10 carts held together. As a Parcel, you're supposed to keep the carts stocked up in all 3 entrances, keep all the hand baskets stocked, clean the restroom every hour and clear the back of the registers all at the same time. If you don't keep all these things up and in order, you'll be talked to by a manager, setting you even further behind. You're moving around 100% of the time (And i'm being 100% literal) not respected at, overworked and under payed. You never work the same schedule/times every week, so you can never make plans. You cannot enjoy you're break because while you're on break, the carts, hand baskets and back of the registers continue to pile up because there is no one to cover for you. If you fall behind and get off before you manage to clear nearly all the carts the closing Parcel that works after you will complain to the managers because they actually have to do something (7PM-11PM is when the store becomes absolutely dead, aside from on Holidays) Holidays as a Parcel are absolutely horrid. It's impossible to keep all entrances carts and hand baskets caught up and the bathroom is constantly becoming disguising. I've only worked for Fred Meyers for 5 months, but in that 5 months i've never been late a single time or called in sick a single time, even when I was sick. I always took over other people's hours when they requested time off and always worked when I was asked if I could come in, yet i've never been respected. I've gotten so frustrated that i've written resignation letters and the only reason I have stayed working at Fred Meyers is because my mother can hardly afford to pay for anything of mine. I drive around uninsured even though its illegal, and since I only work part time, I generally only make ~$500 a month and half of that money goes to gas, food and savings. I'm to the point where the only reason I haven't resigned is now because I cannot get the courage to resign in person for fear of the manager freaking out. I'm just thinking about calling in and resigning, but still offering a 2 weeks notice, even though it's not professional.
