Pros

Internal Training for people starting their careers. People can find it useful to get some GE training and experience for a couple of years and then move on to more stable employment where internal politics dont trump everything

Cons

1. Confusion, turmoil, churning resulting from attempts to achieve "Dashboard" metrics goals. 2. The pain of being stuck in a job where your boss and their middle management bosses are self promoting, Lost in Space- Dr Smith types. GE Energy promotes "leaders" who never had and seldom achieve competence or long term experience in the areas where they lead. 10% of the middle managers actually have experience with the product lines they proport to manage i.e. Appliance leader talking to paper mill energy manager. 3. Long term employment prospects are greatly dimmed by losses in technology for its new equipment and retirement of their technical experts. "You can buy better but you wont pay more." 4. Processes and equipment created with the design for six sigma and toll gate systems will create dread and pain for all employees involved. Avoid if at all possible

Sad days for GE

Pros

Pay is ok, although that is changing for the worse every contract. Market based wages and benefits take always are the norm these days.

Cons

Poor management. You will work very hard to do the right thing only to find they only appreciate toadies and people willing to shortcut the process. You will be ignored, belittled, and made to compromise your integrity if you want to get ahead. I retire soon after 39 years and have been ashamed to work here for quite awhile. Very sad, as this is not the company I started with.

STAY AWAY!!!!

Pros

Flexible work hours (during non-close hours), trainings (non-work related), unlimited vacation (really depends on the manager or the team), relocation bonus

Cons

Management: Rude and clueless senior and executive management who do not care about their teams and will blame you for not have the job done even if things were out of your control. Work: Unrealistic work goals, redundant work processes, 15+ hour daily work weeks during close (Accounting/Finance groups), work on federal holidays and weekends, blame throwing on each other is part of the culture. Only certain teams are helpful while the rest feel like sharks in a tank. Benefits: Pay is extremely low compared to market average and raises are no more than 2%. Forget about being paid for further education or raises after achieving them. Medical is high deductible only and not affordable to most. Have to pay for monthly parking in the building. Career: GE Global ops started off with 1000+ employees in 2016 and now there less than 200 left in the center. You can imagine what the turn over rate is . Changing the teams is a strict process (18+ stay in current position required) with no possibilities for raises or promotions. GE's current reputation in the market has completely deteriorated so recruiters and companies know that you are desperate to get out. More importantly, the company overall is shrinking down at a massive rate and businesses are being closed down to cut down costs. Layoffs and firings are expected more in the upcoming year.
