Pros

Not much, the only positives are the PTO and work schedule flexibility. The pay was So So as well nothing too great though.

Cons

Well where do we start here. Let's say just about everything. Bonus program sucks and is non existent unless you can bill out 50 hours a week on salary. Oh and if you do that good luck not getting yelled at by PMs. You get paid straight time for all the hours you work past 43 hours a week, that's your bonus. Management is a joke, most people at this company have no clue what they are doing or how to run a job but yet justify a 6 figure salary. The work is such low quality and so mindless it offers no challenge what so ever. Total repetitive junk work. This place relies on 1-2 huge municipal contract jobs and gets a giant fee. Then half the office destroys the budget because they finally have billable time. Speaking of billable time, you better stay billable or your not meeting your production requirements. Then when you charge a job too much you get yelled at, then when you start charging overhead instead. Guess what... you get yelled at for that as well. So you figure that one out. It's ok for PMs to beat budgets to death so they fill out there time sheet but you charge 2 hours for working on something, you get a call asking why did that task take you so long? We can now move onto principals and management. They will lie to your face and claim there is so much opportunity and so much chance to grow your career. Really there is none, they don't give salary increases or if they do have fun with your 1 percent raise. The way to get ahead here is not through hard work but by joining the boys club and get ready to pucker up. Oh now the merger, GHD was great before. Now with CRA where do I start. Maybe safety, we are now a culture of ISO 5000 safety certified garbage. You better attend the safety meetings and fill out incident reports or you'll be considered insubordinate and get written up. Don't run with scissors, look both ways before crossing the road, what should you do about a paper cut? Hmmm I just dont know if I could ever survive without them telling me. Also now if you want to do training or go to a seminar have fun having 4 principals sign off on forms, normally your group manager would do this but no not any more. Culture is a nightmare, such a divide between CRA and GHD people. Do yourself a favor and never work here.

Pros

Some good people are around, you have to look hard...especially for good managers. There are some good projects that will help you gain experience or exposure to new technologies or disciplines. Lots of good technical resources within the staff.

Cons

The culture within the western United States offices is toxic. Management is untrustworthy from project managers up to principals. This company is entrenched in oil and gas and is eating its own to survive.

Pros

I had the opportunity to work on projects (such as Superfund cleanups) that I would not have had a chance to work on if I had remained in the laboratory.

Cons

Company culture went downhill fast after my former company (CRA) merged with GHD in 2015. I was also expected to be available 24/7 electronically, so work/life balance was horrible. There were also few opportunities to move up, having a Principle/Associate/Worker management structure. The company is also heavily slanted towards the engineering disciplines, so chemists were always seen as a necessary evil at best. There was also a quantity over quality bias towards work, so it was necessary to clock a minimum of total hours of which a significant portion needed to be billable to a client project.
