Everything's Fine

Pros

The company has a lot of resources, i.e. money, that they can draw upon. That generally means good instant-gratification benefits for employees. They finally embraced remote work life because of the pandemic, allowing employees to explore living outside of the city without losing their job. Overall, it's f i n e. And so if you're okay getting up, getting your job done, and going about your life, then great. So long as you get along with your manager. Many people have worked here much longer than is normally seen in tech companies, and I think that's why. It's stable and fairly easy to coast along.

Cons

Equity structure is certainly not the greatest. Leadership seems very ego-driven, at the end of the day it's about making them look good to DSG. DSG becoming very heavily involved in overseeing things means you lose a lot of what makes a startup great. Very top-down approach to decisions.

Strategy was never clear

Pros

Good benefits, work/life balance, great culture if you find the right team

Cons

I never felt "settled". There is a lot of turmoil, leadership changes and strategic shifts. In Marketing alone, 4 or 5 different people were leading things over the course of a year. "Strategy" people keep appearing out of nowhere and never really get introduced to the company. And just when you think you know what's going on, the President cycles through more executives or consultants. There is so much energy spent on how to work with him that contributions to the company goals are sacrificed in favor of survival. At the end of the day, all of that fear and instability leads to a strategy that is not clear. Failed attempts to grow in new sports, competitors gaining ground in baseball and softball, and forced investment into AI with no game plan are examples of this.
