Pros

There is pretty good pay, and I enjoy the work, but I am not a fan of the management team. Overall the vision for moving forward is good and easy to believe in.

Cons

There is a serious disconnect between the vision at the highest levels of management and the lower management of the finance group At a lower level so much of the message gets lost in translation. It is disappointing that often the people that work the hardest and put in the most time do not get rewarded - no thank yous, no comp time, and next year, no raises.

Pros

The best things about working at the Gap were the benefits, the youth of my co-workers as well as the challenges to step up and work on high impact projects.

Cons

While benefits were good, the salary was rubbish, middle management were typically lifers and relatively useless. Things only get done by the executive leadership and implemented by the young overworked staffers. Middle management would just sit back and then watch. Real career opportunities were limited and promotions were rare. I felt if I left the company I could come back the next week to a higher position with better pay.

Pros

People are treated fairly at Gap. Gap truly cares about their employees and society. Gap's pay is competitive. It is a fun environment to work in when business is doing well. Each full-time employee gets 4 weeks vacation. Gap provides $5,000 annually for tuition.

Cons

It's a tough environment for retail. Gap in particular, is still looking for a big turn around in market share. Gap seems to struggle in identifying its target customers for each of the respective brands. However, as of late they have been much more concise in establishing the "target" customer. Employee morale continues to improve but still has a long way to go.
