Great benefits, rough pay, improving culture

Pros

Garmin has tried really hard to maintain a strong culture of inclusion and positivity. Benefits are incomparable. You would be hard-pressed to find anywhere nearby with benefits anywhere near the level that Garmin offers. Hands down superior.

Cons

Pay is well below par for the industry. It's such a point of contention for employees that it was the lowest scoring subcategory in 2023's employee engagement survey. The combined it with the benefits subcategory (one of the highest-scored categories) in most areas to downplay how dissatisfied employees are with compensation these days. Garmin also struggles a lot with consistency and clarity surrounding policies, especially WFH policy. Some teams are in the office full-time (even if the work can be done remotely), others are in a regularly-scheduled hybrid setup, and still others are rarely in the office. Depending on the location, some do not even work in an office. It's wildly inconsistent and creates frustrations and tension. Transferring to another Garmin office is generally out of the question, regardless of whether your job can be done in any available office. Advancement opportunities are also very inconsistent across departments and roles.

Pros

The work life Balance is pretty good here. There's an emphasis on getting work done in a timely manner and pulling more people in if you end up in a time crunch. I've never had to work more than 40 hours since I've been here. The benefits are also pretty incredible; I don't think there's anyone who can beat the 401(k) matching here, the health insurance is very good and this discount on Garmin products is legendary. If you're working in Olathe, you'll also get access to the Garmin gym and free fitness classes.

Cons

Base pay could be a little higher, and Garmin isn't a company to give out giant bonuses. Opportunities for growth can be slow to appear here as well.
