      Pros

      Best global IT analyst firm Highly regarded Work with lots of smart people Gene Hall saved the company after years of gross mismanagement

      Cons

      Gartner lacks strong mid management. C-Suite represents the sum total of executive skills. Stack ranking and poor ops makes for a non-collaborative environment.

      Consulting for a Research company is different; Small, immature company trying to act like a more mature company-failing

      Pros

      Very bright colleagues; collaborate with well-known analysts Access to wonderful range of IP Flexible work schedule; good IT infrastructure to support teleworking Nice office space; flat organizational structure Lots of opportunity to work on a variety of projects/industries/issues in a short time.

      Cons

      Communication of important decisions from senior management are slow-coming or non-existent Narrow career path limited to becoming a managing partner who focuses on selling into client accounts; little or no support for other subject matter expert roles to advance in level. Weak knowledge management - for a consulting org that depends on the quality of delivery IP, there is very little investment in developing and maintaining assets beyond the "in your spare time approach".

      Great place to work, only if you forget about material benefits

      Pros

      Fantastic brand and people to work with. Real visibility into CIO level issues and drivers. Stimulating colleagues and access to SME research analysts.

      Cons

      Money, money, money. Gartner seemed to have lost touch from real world on pay packages and benefits - specially when it comes to Consulting. That's a real shame, because it keeps losing bright and experienced people despite having a strong pipeline.
