An annual company retreat, pets at work and snacks is not a substitute for basic HR policies and an HR manager / department. - Career advancement. Promotion from within is not in the playbook. If you're being considered for a management role, assume your future team of loyal employees was not considered and will rightly be frustrated about your hiring. - Micromanagement. It starts with founders not trusting their team and ends with silos, politics and bureaucracy akin to a mega global corporation. - Check your ethics at the door.
