toxicity at all levels

Pros

> great opensource community and still some goodwill despite toxicity > fantastic minds with great ideas when enabled/leveraged well > good approach to remote work

Cons

> toxicity runs unaddressed above IC level of this company, it has the most toxic leaders I have ever worked with in my career, and i've had to work with actual white supremacists > extremely exclusionary with leaders that have openly white supremacist, misogynist & queerphobic convictions and constantly break promises or get distracted by shiny things, at the expense of ICs > incompetent, unempathetic leaders whose idea of management is pitting good people against each other > too much heroism, burnout, abuse, run as fast as you can

Pros

Open source project that got marketers and website builders alike excited

Cons

CEO brings all his friends in the company. very inexperienced and naive folks that can't tell the forest for the trees. big titles but little experience, or strategy perspective. a bunch of kids running the place like in the 'lord of the flies' keep away talent and experienced from joining. who wants to work for kids with no experience?

Pros

Gatsby has some of the smartest people I've worked with and that made it really enjoyable. I loved working with my coworkers and could see their passion about what they were doing. I learned a lot at the company and it positioned me well for my next role. Overall, I recommend Gatsby as a great place to work.

Cons

Gatsby had a bit of a rough start the first 2 years due to a lack of focus coming from the leadership. When you try to do too many things at the same time, chaos ensues. The company has worked to fix this (end of 2020, brought in a new CEO among other things) and that has made a drastically positive improvement. I'm very optimistic about the future of Gatsby and will look forward to seeing where it goes!
