Pros

1. Professional environment 2. Excellent nurses 3. Good Salary (I started at 75th percentile right out of residency and after 1 year was given a raise to the 90th percentile for my speciality) 4. Very interesting patient base with a fair amount of complex cases that I would not expect given Geisinger is not in a "Major City" (basically all Geisinger hospitals are in suburbs/rural areas but have a system designed to funnel complex cases to appropriate hospitals and appropriate specialists within the system) 5. Fantastic benefits package with good vacation/CME/401k/457b/sign on bonus 6. The office manager and other ancillary staff really take care for everything that would otherwise take time away from me practicing.

Cons

1. The physician lounge is nice but only stocked with crackers, soda, apples and granola bars.

Pros

You get to interact with patients and families and get to know and comfort people in a time of uncertainty and need

Cons

For what is expected of patient care assisstants they are terribly underpaid. There were times where I had higher patient ratios than what it was like when I worked in a nursing home, which is terrible. I also did not care for the attitudes of a lot of the nurses, who really put a lot of work on PCAs, even though they were paid at least twice the amount as an average PCA. Communication tended to be poor, it was just the attitude of some of the nurses. It never felt like a team.
