Senior management will come talk to you. In most companies there is an strict trickling up of information via the manager only. This is not the case at Genentech. It is NOT stuffy like most big Pharma. Lots of fun activities. Growth opportunities

Cons

Some managers can be extremely bad. If you get stuck with one of those....

Great company culture, tremendous spirit for accomplishment

Cons

Not all departments embody the company culture. Particularly in a certain part of the finance organization, the leadership clearly doesn't understand the people management aspect of the job. They are "out for themselves" and incapable or unwilling to foster a culture of professional development and mutual success. We often hear a lot about what it takes to be a good leader--but this group seems to be exempt and subsequently rewarded with promotions to more senior levels.

-Oncology product line -Great science -Hot company, great brand name -Generally good people can be found across the company in various divisions

Cons

Corporatization and growth. Trend of commercial dictating development too much. Potential buyout by Roche. The other thing to be aware of is the changing nature of the biopharma field in conjunction with the changing landscape of health system in the US. Biotech drugs are garnering increasing scrutiny due to price and companies like Genentech will be pushed to demonstrate value above and beyond what it has done so far. With regards to this the free ride is over.
