Pros

The culture there is great. Everyone is very friendly, and they foster a very academic environment which encourages alternative viewpoints and constructive feedback. The hours were also very flexible and I was allowed to work at home when I needed to. Also my manager was very tuned into my professional development and took an active interest in helping me prepare for my next job.

Cons

The problem with Genentech is that if you are not a scientist or if you don't have a deep sales background (or willing to go out in the field and get one) your career potential there is limited.

Pros

Good entry level company to work for. They provide good training for employees and their positions. You never get rich working for B&D, but many other companies hire their employees

Cons

Lots of turnover of employees, many of their management have big ego's and company has lost focus Products they sell are not the best in class , but more of a "chevrolet". They are not in tune in what is going on in their market place are simply losing market share. Also they are unwilling to "listen" to their customer base.

Pros

Exellent benefits and decent work life balance as a technician.

Cons

New culture being created at the company is much more corporate, as opposed to the small company feel that made Genentech a great place to work 5 years ago. With the current downsizing and push to lean manufacturing, people are becoming more vital to the success of the company. This is normally a good thing, but it does not allow professional growth since the company cannot afford to lose an individual in their current position. Most companies will promote you as you succeed, while here you are applauded for your success, but asked to remain in the current role to help grow the company.
