Pros

Worked as a field systems engineer in the CPOF program. Decent place to work if you need somewhere to beef up your system administrator and other IT skills. The program I worked for gave you plenty of flexibility to work on and study whatever you wanted when things were slow or there were no trouble tickets to handle.

Cons

Working as a contractor means that at any point in time there will be budget cuts and employee lay offs. Company leadership tried to take care of us as best they could, but if there were cuts then we as the field engineers wouldn't find out until the absolute last minute. Also, you don't get good over time benefits because each project has a set budget; so if you have to work overtime to get the customers systems up and running and overtime has not been computed in the budget, then you're screwed.

Thank you for your review. CPOF is a very important program and we appreciate your work on it! Government cuts are difficult and we are doing everything that we can to protect our core programs by engaging key leadership in Washington, and pursuing new opportunities. Please be sure to keep an eye on ConnectingPoint, this is the main forum that we use for disseminating information to everyone and we update it daily. In the meantime, we will take your advice into serious consideration as we seek to improve communication between staff and senior management.

Pros

I worked within a busy department with professional and friendly staff. I received annual raises- compensation and benefits were good. My supervisor was highly competent and a wonderful human being. I was able to work from home on occasion and flextime was available.

Cons

The company changed their vacation accrual and PTO policies and it significantly reduced the vacation time people had previously earned.

Pros

Pay is good, work in doors most of the time. Have people with many years of experience. Most of the time work is not hard.

Cons

Keep employees forever that do nothing 8 hours or more a day. No inventory system in place at our location. Upper management gets richer even as company's revenue goes down.
