Pros

1. If you're a "senior", lay back, the younger people will do all the work. 2. If you do something wrong, you can just blame your younger teammates or someone on another team. 3. You just need to show up on time, you don't have to do actual work once you're in the office. 4. Great salary and benefits especially for those with a senior title, full-time 5. Interviews for seniors are easy, just spew nonsense about how you believe in Agile 6. They take minimum 6 months to fire anyone for incompetence, or they won't at all 7. 2/3 of all the senior devs are clueless, just blend in!

Cons

1. In-fighting is at an all time high! 2. Management is always at an arms reach 3. Management has no idea what they're doing 4. Management either doesn't take feedback or they answer with fluff

Pros

Meaningful work. The 9-day fortnights are really nice. The quarterly "thank you" drinks/BBQ and Christmas/New Year parties are good fun.

Cons

Constantly working to make up lost ground due to poor planning. Programmes are poorly run.

A Software Engineering Disaster

Pros

Good salary (for the area) and a decent pension. There’s no pressure to do more hours than you are paid for. This is a common thing in software, many companies will ask you to stay on to get something done (with no additional pay.

Cons

Software Engineering practices don’t exist – no one care’s about design patterns, standards, principles and system design. Cobbling something together is encouraged and fixing bugs is a low-priority. Dominated by contractors who are given the most exciting work to do, which makes them indispensable. So as a permanent employee you feel ripped off. No scope for self-improvement – this is a software engineer's bread and butter and keeping your skills up-to-date and sharp in a fast moving industry is vital. Graduates are seen as cheap labour - join as a Graduate Software Engineer and you will be promised the earth, but in reality you more than likely won’t be developing, but instead testing.
