Pros

There aren't many pros to G&W after they bought out RailAmerica they began a systematic attack on all the acquired employees. Promote safety by covering up incidents and bullying accident victims into silence with threats both outright and veiled. If there was a negative rating I would be all over it.

Cons

after buyout work environment became openly hostile, backstabbing, and headhunting were encouraged. Seem to be intentionally reducing workforce to be able to bring outside outsourced cheaper labor. Don't ever trust anyone in management positions they are all snakes and cheese eating rats. CENTRAL REGION is cesspool of negativity. Company demands all your time and expects you to work 7 days a week.

Pros

One of the best jobs with no experince or degree required. Federal rules guarentee you will never work more than 9 hours a day. Excellent pay and benefits. Outstanding railroad retirment

Cons

24/7/365 job. Antiquated HR polices. Little to no input on day to day operations. No local HR rep. Due to federal regulations and the seriousness of the job, there is a high attritation rate. Can be extremely stressful

Pros

Management does what it says it is going to do. Training is above average. The company supplies you with the tools necessary for the job and has a generous co-pay for work required boots.

Cons

It is a short line that tries to act like a class 1. You have all of the negatives, long hours, antagonistic management, harsh working conditions ie: rain, snow, 100 degree plus days and freezing nights. All of that for less than half the pay of a class 1 railroad. They work you up to the Federal limit and then try to get more out of you. If you are working a job with weekends off, and you go on vacation, they will call you back the next Saturday to cover someone else's job and take away the weekend at the end of your vacation.
